About MockLive

MockLive is an AI mock interview practice tool. You paste the job description you're targeting, add your resume, pick an interviewer and answer out loud. The interviewer presses on the weak spots in your resume and the requirements in the job description; afterwards you get a report in which every criticism quotes your exact words, with the original audio to replay.

The site lives at makeinterview.com and the product is called MockLive — they are the same thing.

How it works

Five interviewers match the five rounds most hiring processes use: recruiter / HR screen, hiring manager, technical expert, department head, and executive or founder final round. Each follows its own script — opening, resume drill, competency, pressure, your questions — and each cares about different things and follows up differently.

You can set the intensity to gentle, standard or stress, and the interview language to any of 11, including Chinese and English. In English, the interviewer asks, follows up and writes your report in English.

The report gives a three-tier hiring verdict (Hire / Borderline / No-hire risk), ratings on six dimensions, three to six verbatim pieces of evidence, question-by-question feedback with a better way to answer, and flags your weakest dimensions so you can practise exactly those next.

The one rule we hold to: only quote what you said

Every piece of evidence and every per-question comment in a report must quote an exact fragment of your transcript. Each quote is checked (ignoring extra whitespace and letter case); if a single one doesn't match, the whole report is rejected and regenerated — a report with a quote that doesn't match is never shown to you. So every criticism you read traces back to a sentence you actually said, and you can replay the recording to check it.

We do this because the least useful mock interview feedback is the kind that fits anyone — “could be clearer”. Feedback you can check is feedback you can act on.

Why practise the structured way

One of the most-cited meta-analyses in personnel selection found that structured interviews — fixed questions and a shared scoring standard — predict job performance markedly better than free-flowing conversation (Schmidt & Hunter, 1998). A more conservative re-estimate in 2022 found the same direction, with structured interviews still ranked first among the selection methods studied (Sackett et al., 2022).

The implication for practice is simple: real interviewers dig, dimension by dimension, until they have facts they can score. So MockLive moves through fixed stages and rates the same six dimensions every time, instead of just chatting with you.

Your data

Your resume, answer recordings, transcripts and reports are used only to generate your follow-ups and your report. From the privacy policy page you can permanently delete everything under your identity in one click; deleted data cannot be recovered.

What it can't do

The interviewer, questions and scores are generated by a large language model. They are practice feedback — not any employer's hiring signal, and not career advice. MockLive is not affiliated with any employer, recruiter or interview platform.

It doesn't test live coding, and it isn't a question bank: it asks about your own resume and the job description you're targeting.

The practice room's on-screen controls are currently in Chinese; the interview itself can run in English.
